Into The Woods

Barrington Stage Company

Puppet Design

The first Mainstage production of Barrington Stage Company's 25th season, Brandon Hardy designed the Puppetry for director Joe Calarco's surprising new production of Into The Woods. Chief among the Puppets was Milky White the Cow, realized as a large-scale, skeletal marionette. Since ownership of Milky White the cow is an important plot point in the show the puppetry was designed to reflect this; the cow was operated in any given moment by whichever character(s) had ownership over her at the time. The actors who played Jack, Jack's Mother, The Baker, The Baker's Wife, and the Mysterious Man were all trained on the puppet for this reason, and they each had a hand in puppeteering her when they came together around her to break the Witch's spell.
